달러화 가치에 대한 우려가 계속되면서 달러거래가 15개월 만에 가장 낮은 수준을 기록했지만 여전히 국제자본조달통화로서는 달러화의 지위가 계속될 것으로 보입니다.

 

 

어제 버냉키 의장이 달러화 강세를 위해 노력하겠지만 노동과 대출시장이 어려워지는 것은 더 좋지 않다고 말한 걸로 미뤄 연준이 달러화 가치 제고를 위해 구두개입 이외에 적극적 행동을 취할 가능성이 당분간은 적어 보이는 게 사실입니다.

Dollar Trades Near 15-Month Low; Investors Doubt Fed’s Support

Nov. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The dollar traded near a 15-month low against the currencies of major U.S. trading partners as investors questioned Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke’spledge of support for the greenback.

 

The yen was poised to fall against its major counterparts before a report today forecast to show U.S. industrial production advanced last month for a fourth month, damping demand for Japan’s currency as a refuge. The euro was set to rise on speculation a rally in global equities will boost demand for higher-yielding assets.

 

“The dollar will continue to be used as a funding currency amid rising risk appetite,” said Yoh Nihei, trading group manager at Tokai Tokyo Securities Co. in Tokyo. “The mainstream trend remains intact. The Fed will keep low rates for a while.”

 

The Dollar Index, which IntercontinentalExchange Inc. uses to track the greenback’s value against the euro, yen, pound, Canadian dollar, Swiss franc and Swedish krona, fell 0.6 percent to 74.894 in New York yesterday. It touched 74.679, the lowest level since August 2008.

 

The dollar was at $1.4973 per euro at 8:16 a.m. in Tokyo from $1.4970 yesterday in New York. The euro traded at 133.25 yen from 133.33 yen. The dollar fetched 88.98 yen from 89.05 yen. Yesterday it touched 88.76, the lowest level since Oct. 9.

 

Bernanke said yesterday in a New York speech that the Fed “will help ensure that the dollar is strong and a source of global financial stability.” Economic “headwinds” of weak lending and labor markets will probably restrain the pace of the U.S. economic recovery, warranting a continuation of low borrowing costs.

 

Economists surveyed by Bloomberg News forecast factory output in the U.S. probably rose 0.4 percent in October after gaining 0.7 percent in September. The Federal Reserve’s report is due today.

 

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Indexrose 1.5 percent in New York yesterday, and the Dow Jones Industrial Averagegained 1.3 percent.

달러거래가  벤 버냉키 연준 의장의 달러지원 발언에 대해 의문을 느낀 미국의 주요 거래국 통화에 대해 15개월 만에 가장 낮은 수준을 기록했다.

 

엔화는 지난달까지 4개월간 미국의 산업생산이 늘어날 것으로 오늘 자 보고서가 예측됨에 따라 대체수단으로서의 엔화수요가 하락하면서 주요국 통화대비 하락하는 모습이다. 유로는 글로벌 증시상승의 투기적 상승에 따라 올랐는데 고수익자산에 대한 수요는 증가할 것이다.

 

Tokai Tokyo Securities Co.의 트레이딩그룹 매니저인 Yoh Nihei는 달러는 위험이 증가하는 가운데서도 계속해서 자금조달통화의 역할을 수행할 것이며 이러한 흐름을 당분간은 유지할 것이며 연준은 낮은 금리를 한동안 유지할 것이라고 말했다.

 

IntercontinentalExchange Inc.이 유로, 엔, 파운드, 캐나다달러, 스위스프랑, 스웨덴크로나 등에 대한 달러화의 가치를 평가하는 달러인덱스는 어제 뉴욕에서 0.6%하락한 74,894였다. 그것은 2008년 8월이래 가장 낮은 수치인 74.679까지 떨어졌었다.

 

어제뉴욕시장에서 유로당 1.4970달러에 거래되던 달러는 오후 8:16분 도쿄에서 1.4973달러에 거래되었다. 유로는 유로당 133.33엔에서 133.25엔으로 거래되었다. 달러는 89,05엔에서 88.98엔에 거래되었는데 어제 10월9일 이래 가장 낮은 수준인 88.76엔까지 떨어졌었다.

 

버냉키는 어제 뉴욕에서 연준은 글로벌 금융안정의 기초로서 강한 달러를 만들기 위해 도울 것이며, 대출시장과 노동시장 약화로부터의 역풍은 자칫 낮은 차입비용을 바탕으로 한 미국경제회복을 제한하게 될 것이라 말했다.

 

이코노미스트들을 상대로 한 블룸버그의 조사에 따르면 미국의 공장생산은 지난 9월 0.7%상승 이후 10월에 0.4%증가할 것으로 예측되었다. 연준의 보고서는 오늘 발표된다.
