美연준의 12월 베이지북, 여전히 안개속인 미국경제

미 연준의 12월 베이지북이 발간되었습니다.

보고서에 따르면 일부 지역에서 자동차 판매 등이 늘어나는 등 소비가 늘어나고 있지만 자동차와 관련 없는 분야의 소비는 크게 늘지 않았고, 대출은 부실율이 확대되는 가운데 대출수요는 줄고 있으며, 최저가 주택을 중심으로 주택판매는 늘어났지만 가격은 하락압력이 강한 상황입니다.

또 상업용 부동산의 상황은 지난 보고서 이후 더 악화되어 가고 있으며, 일부 지역에서 상품가격 상승압력이 감지되고 있지만 임금상승움직임은 거의 보이지 않는다는 사실을 말하고 있습니다.

연준은 지난번보다 일부 부문에서 개선조짐이 나타나고 있으므로 '전반적으로 조금 나아졌다'는 표현을 사용하고 있지만 특이할 만한 상승은 보이지 않는 것이 사실이며, 오히려 부양으로 인한 자동차 판매증가와 압류로 인한 저가주택 판매증가의 효과를 빼면 큰 개선을 찾기는 더더욱 어렵습니다.

앞으로 전개되는 양상을 지켜봐야 하겠지만 여러 가지 증거를 통해 미국경제가 쉽사리 나아지는 것을 기대하긴 매우 어려운 상황입니다.

SUMMARY OF COMMENTARY ON CURRENT ECONOMIC CONDITIONS

SUMMARY*

Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts indicate that economic conditions

have generally improved modestly since the last report. Eight Districts indicated some pickup

in activity or improvement in conditions, while the remaining four?Philadelphia, Cleveland,

Richmond, and Atlanta?reported that conditions were little changed and/or mixed.

Consumer spending was reported to have picked up moderately since the last report,

for both general merchandise and vehicles; a number of Districts noted relatively robust sales

of used autos. Most Districts indicated that non-auto retailers were holding lean inventories

going into the holiday season. Tourism activity varied across Districts. Manufacturing

conditions were said to be, on balance, steady to moderately improving across most of the

country, while conditions in the nonfinancial service sector generally strengthened

somewhat, though with some variation across Districts and across industries. Residential real

estate conditions were somewhat improved from very low levels, on balance, led by the

lower end of the market. Most Districts reported some pickup in home sales, though prices

were generally said to be flat or declining modestly; residential construction was

characterized as weak, but some Districts did note some pickup in activity. Commercial real

estate markets and construction activity were depicted as very weak and, in many cases,

deteriorating.

Financial institutions generally reported steady to weaker loan demand, continued

tight credit standards, and steady or deteriorating loan quality. In the agricultural sector, the

fall harvest was delayed in the eastern half of the nation due to excessively wet conditions

during October and early November. Most energy-producing Districts noted a slight uptick

in activity in the sector since the last report. Labor market conditions remained weak since

the last report, though there were signs of stabilization and scattered signs of improvement.

While some Districts reported upward pressure on commodity prices, they saw little or no

indication of upward wage pressures or of any significant increase in prices of finished goods.

양판점과 지역의 많은 곳에서 중고차 판매가 늘어난 것과 관련된 자동차에 대한 매출이 지난 보고서 이후 일부 증가했다. 자동차 이외의 소매업자 들은 연말세일기간까지 재고를 보유해야 하는 상황이다. 관광업의 활동성은 전반적으로 다양하게 나타나고 있고 비제조서비스 분야의 상태가 강하게 회복되고 있음에도 제조업의 상태는 전반적으로 개선속도가 느리다.

주택부동산시장은 저가 주택의 주도 속에 매우 위축된 상태에서 일부 개선되는 모습을 보이고 있다.

대부분의 지역에서 주택판매가 일부 늘어나고 있지만 주택가격은 변동이 없거나 낮아지는 추세고 이에 따라 주택건설시장이 위축되고 있지만 일부 지역에서는 증가된 곳도 있다.

상업부동산시장과 건설활동성은 매우 약한 상황이며 많은 곳에서 악화되고 있는 중이다.

금융기관에 대한 보고에 따르면 지속적인 대출기준 강화로 대출 수요가 약화되고 있으며 대출이 부실화 되고 있다. 농업부분에서는 너무 습한 기후로 인해 동부지역에서 10월과 11월 초가을 수확이 지연되었다.

대부분의 에너지 생산지역은 지난 보고 이후 약간 개선되었고 노동시장은 지난 보고서 이후 안정과 개선된 상황이 일부 있지만 약화된 상황이 지속되고 있다. 일부 지역에서 상품가격에 대한 상승압력이 나타나고 있지만 임금상승압력이나 최종상품의 가격의 중요한 상승은 거의 볼 수 없다.
