연준의 지난 7월 중순부터 8월까지의 미국 각 지역의 경제변화를 다룬 베이지북이 발표되었습니다.

사실 어제 나왔는데 미처 체크를 못했습니다. ㅡㅡ;

 

 

지난 보고서부터 경제성장 둔화에 대한 모습이 좀 더 구체화되더니 큰 변화가 없는 상황이 계속되고 있습니다.

보고서에서는 많은 지역에서 경제 활동성이 혼재되었다는 표현을 쓰고 있지만 사실상 개선 모습이 매우 미미하거나 약화되는 상황이 계속되고 있다는 표현이 적절할 것 같습니다.

경제성장을 위해서 가계소득증가가 필수라는 사실은 이미 상식이 된지 오래기 때문에 이번에 오바마가 의회에 일자리창출 법안을 제시한 것도 같은 맥락에서 이해할 수 있지만 이미 지난번 미국의 신용등급 하락 이후 다뤘던 것처럼 경기부양정책의 효과가 이제 예전만큼 크지 않을 것으로 보입니다.

SUMMARY*

 

Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts indicated that economic activity continued to expand at a modest pace, though some Districts noted mixed or weakening activity. The St. Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas, and San Francisco Districts all reported either modest or slight expansion. Atlanta said activity continued to expand at a very subdued pace, while Cleveland reported slow growth and New York indicated growth remained sluggish. Economic activity expanded more slowly in the Chicago District and slowed in the Richmond District. Business activity in the Boston and Philadelphia Districts was characterized as mixed, with Philadelphia adding that activity was somewhat weaker overall. Several Districts also indicated that recent stock market volatility and increased economic uncertainty had led many contacts to downgrade or become more cautious about their near-term outlooks.

Consumer spending increased slightly in most Districts since the last survey, but non-auto retail sales were flat or down in several Districts. Although poor weather dampened growth in some areas, tourist activity remained solid in most Districts. The demand for services was generally positive throughout the nation, but one region said conditions were deteriorating. Of the five Districts reporting on transportation, three said conditions were mostly positive, while the other two reported activity as flat or slightly below expectations. Manufacturing conditions were mixed across the country, but the pace of activity slowed in many Districts. Residential real estate markets remained weak overall with only a few slight improvements in some Districts. Most Districts characterized commercial real estate and construction activity as weak or little changed, but improvements were noted in several areas. Loan demand remained stable or slightly weaker, and lending standards were largely unchanged with an improvement in loan quality. Harsh summer weather negatively affected agricultural activity, although recent rains in several Districts provided some relief. Districts reporting on energy activity said it generally expanded, with further growth expected.

Price pressures edged lower, although input costs continued to increase in some industries and retail prices rose in several Districts. Labor markets were generally stable, although some Districts reported modest employment growth. Wage pressures were generally minimal outside of some upward movement for skilled positions.

일부 산업에서 투입원가의 비용이 계속 증가하고 소매가격이 오르고 있지만 물가인상압력은 더 낮아지고 있다. 노동시장은 일부 지역에서 고용이 일부 증가하고 있지만 여전히 큰 변화가 없으며 임금상승압력도 일부 숙련근로자의 경우를 제외하고는 거의 변화가 없다.

오늘 2010년 8월 자 베이지북이 발간되었습니다.

이 보고서는 7월 중순부터 8월말까지의 각 지역별 현황을 설명하고 있으며 경제활동성은 지난 7월 이후 전반적으로 개선되고 있지만 그 속도는 느려지고 있다는 의견을 밝히고 있습니다.

아직은 전반적인 침체상황인 가운데 미국 경제의 개선은 산업별, 지역별로 양극화되고 있는 양상을 보이고 있는데 상업부동산 및 건설업종은 여전히 성장이 낮은 반면 비 금융 전문서비스업종은 큰 상승을 보이고 있습니다. 또 세인트루이스, 클리블랜드, 샌프랜시스코 등 일부 지역의 활성성은 높아지는 반면 뉴욕, 필라델피아 등 지역은 여전히 고전하는 상황입니다.

또 일부 원자재가격은 오르고 있지만 물가압력이나 임금상승압력은 여전히 낮다고 설명되었습니다.

경기의 지리 한 오르내림이 계속되는 가운데 별 특이점은 없지만 이정도 보고서만으로도 시장이 반색할 가능성은 충분해 보입니다.

Summary*

     Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts suggested continued growth in national

economic activity during the reporting period of mid-July through the end of August, but with widespread signs of a deceleration compared with preceding periods.

Economic growth at a modest pace was the most common characterization of overall conditions, as provided by the five western Districts of St.Louis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Dallas, and San Francisco. The reports from Boston and Cleveland also pointed to positive developments or net improvements compared with the previous reporting period. However, the remaining Districts of New York, Philadelphia, Richmond, Atlanta, and Chicago all highlighted mixed conditions or deceleration in overall economic activity.

 

     Consumer spending appeared to increase on balance despite continued consumer caution that

limited nonessential purchases, while activity in the travel and tourism sector picked up relative to seasonal norms. Activity was largely stable or up slightly for professional and other nonfinancial services. Reports on manufacturing activity pointed to further expansion, although the pace of growth eased according to several Districts. Agricultural producers and extractors of natural resources reported continued gains in demand and sales. Home sales slowed further following an initial drop after the expiration of the homebuyer tax credit at the end of June, prompting a slowdown in construction activity as well. Demand for commercial real estate remained quite weak but showed signs of stabilization in some areas. Reports from financial institutions pointed to generally stable or slightly lower loan demand and noted some modest improvements in credit quality.

 

     Upward price pressures remained quite limited for most categories of final goods and services,

despite higher prices for selected commodities such as grains and some industrial materials. Wage pressures also were limited, although a few Districts noted increased upward pressures in a narrow set of sectors experiencing a mismatch between job requirements and applicant skills.

소비지출은 소비자들이 생필품이 아닌 물품에 대한 소비가 제한되는 우려에도 불구하고 증가하는 있으며 여행과 관광분야는 계절적 요인이 감안되어 증가되었다. 전문적인 비 금융서비스의 활동성은 크게 안정화 되어있다. 몇몇 지역에서 이러한 성장세가 감소하고 있지만 제조업활동성은 크게 확대되었다.

 

농업생산자들과 광업자들은 수요와 매출이 계속 늘고 있으며 주택판매는 지난 6월 주택구매자에 대한 세제혜택이 끝난 후 초기 하락 이후 속도가 늘려졌으며 이로 인해 주택건설활동성도 하락하고 있다.

 

상업부동산의 수요는 여전히 매우 약한 상황이지만 일부 지역에서는 안정화의 모습도 보이고 있다.

 

금융기관의 보고내용을 보면 대출수요는 낮게 유지되고 있으며 신용도는 일부 개선되는 것으로 나타나고 있다.

 

곡물과 일부 원자재 같은 부분의 가격이 높아지고 있지만 제품이나 서비스 등 대부분의 제품에서 물가상승압력은 거의 없는 상황이다. 임금상승압력은 구직자와 회사간에 원하는 노동 스킬의 미스매치로 인해 일부 상승압력이 있지만 거의 변화는 없다.

미국의 연방은행이 위치한 12지역의 경제에 대한 보고서를 모은 베이지북은 연중 1~2달의 격차를 두고 발간이 되고 있으며 나올 때마다 대부분 소개해 드리려고 하는데,

오늘 발표의 주요골자는 전 지역에서 경제활동성이 미약하지만 개선되고 있지만 주택 등 부동산시장은 여전히 어렵고, 낮은 물가에 임금상승압력도 낮다는 내용으로 정리됩니다.

결과적으로 이번 연준의 베이지북은 큰 변화 없이 정체상태인 미국의 모습을 표현했다는 정도로 해석 가능하겠습니다.

다른 한편으론, 다시 미국경제에 어려움과 위기가 닥칠 수 있다는 경고가 쉴새 없이 나오는 사이에도 실제 데이터에 반영되는 건 한 박자 느릴 수 밖에 없는 통계의 한계도 보여주고 있으며, 이는 실물경제의 어려움과는 다른 모습의 성장률을 보여주는 우리의 경제자료에서도 찾을 수 있습니다.

Summary*

Economic activity has continued to increase, on balance, since the previous survey, although the Cleveland and Kansas City Districts reported that the level of economic activity generally held steady. Among those Districts reporting improvements in economic activity, a number of them noted that the increases were modest, and two Districts, Atlanta and Chicago, said that the pace of economic activity had slowed recently.

Manufacturing activity continued to expand in most Districts, although several Districts reported that activity had slowed or leveled off during the reporting period. Districts also noted improved conditions in the services sector. The five Districts reporting on transportation noted increased activity. Tourism activity also increased across the Districts, although the Atlanta District noted concerns about decreased leisure travel to the Gulf Coast. Retail sales reports generally indicated a continued rise in spending, and several Districts noted that necessities continued to be strong sellers, while big-ticket items moved more slowly. However, most Districts that reported on auto sales noted declines in recent weeks. Activity in residential real estate markets was sluggish in most Districts after the expiration of the April 30 deadline for the homebuyer tax credit. Commercial real estate markets, especially construction, remained weak.

Banking conditions varied across the Districts, with some Districts noting soft or decreased overall loan demand; credit standards remained tight in most reporting Districts. Recent rains had mixed effects on crop conditions, while activity in the natural resources sector increased.

Overall labor market conditions improved modestly across the Districts, with several reports of temporary hiring. Consumer prices of goods and services held steady in most reporting Districts. Input prices also held largely steady, with only a few reports of cost increases. Wage pressures continued to be contained on the whole.

최근의 강수는 농작물작황에 혼합적인 효과를 주고 있는데 천연자원부분의 활동성은 증가추세이다. 전체 노동시장은 일부에서 임시직 고용이 나타나고 있는 가운데 전반적으로 약간씩 개선되고 있다. 상품과 서비스물가는 대부분의 지역에서 낮은 수준을 유지하고 있다. 비용증가에 대한 보고서가 약간 있긴 하지만 투입요소가격 또한 큰 변동이 없다. 임금상승압력은 전체적으로 억제되는 상황이다.

미 연준의 12월 베이지북이 발간되었습니다.

보고서에 따르면 일부 지역에서 자동차 판매 등이 늘어나는 등 소비가 늘어나고 있지만 자동차와 관련 없는 분야의 소비는 크게 늘지 않았고, 대출은 부실율이 확대되는 가운데 대출수요는 줄고 있으며, 최저가 주택을 중심으로 주택판매는 늘어났지만 가격은 하락압력이 강한 상황입니다.

또 상업용 부동산의 상황은 지난 보고서 이후 더 악화되어 가고 있으며, 일부 지역에서 상품가격 상승압력이 감지되고 있지만 임금상승움직임은 거의 보이지 않는다는 사실을 말하고 있습니다.

연준은 지난번보다 일부 부문에서 개선조짐이 나타나고 있으므로 '전반적으로 조금 나아졌다'는 표현을 사용하고 있지만 특이할 만한 상승은 보이지 않는 것이 사실이며, 오히려 부양으로 인한 자동차 판매증가와 압류로 인한 저가주택 판매증가의 효과를 빼면 큰 개선을 찾기는 더더욱 어렵습니다.

앞으로 전개되는 양상을 지켜봐야 하겠지만 여러 가지 증거를 통해 미국경제가 쉽사리 나아지는 것을 기대하긴 매우 어려운 상황입니다.

SUMMARY*

Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts indicate that economic conditions

have generally improved modestly since the last report. Eight Districts indicated some pickup

in activity or improvement in conditions, while the remaining four?Philadelphia, Cleveland,

Richmond, and Atlanta?reported that conditions were little changed and/or mixed.

Consumer spending was reported to have picked up moderately since the last report,

for both general merchandise and vehicles; a number of Districts noted relatively robust sales

of used autos. Most Districts indicated that non-auto retailers were holding lean inventories

going into the holiday season. Tourism activity varied across Districts. Manufacturing

conditions were said to be, on balance, steady to moderately improving across most of the

country, while conditions in the nonfinancial service sector generally strengthened

somewhat, though with some variation across Districts and across industries. Residential real

estate conditions were somewhat improved from very low levels, on balance, led by the

lower end of the market. Most Districts reported some pickup in home sales, though prices

were generally said to be flat or declining modestly; residential construction was

characterized as weak, but some Districts did note some pickup in activity. Commercial real

estate markets and construction activity were depicted as very weak and, in many cases,

deteriorating.

Financial institutions generally reported steady to weaker loan demand, continued

tight credit standards, and steady or deteriorating loan quality. In the agricultural sector, the

fall harvest was delayed in the eastern half of the nation due to excessively wet conditions

during October and early November. Most energy-producing Districts noted a slight uptick

in activity in the sector since the last report. Labor market conditions remained weak since

the last report, though there were signs of stabilization and scattered signs of improvement.

While some Districts reported upward pressure on commodity prices, they saw little or no

indication of upward wage pressures or of any significant increase in prices of finished goods.

대부분의 지역에서 주택판매가 일부 늘어나고 있지만 주택가격은 변동이 없거나 낮아지는 추세고 이에 따라 주택건설시장이 위축되고 있지만 일부 지역에서는 증가된 곳도 있다.

상업부동산시장과 건설활동성은 매우 약한 상황이며 많은 곳에서 악화되고 있는 중이다.

금융기관에 대한 보고에 따르면 지속적인 대출기준 강화로 대출 수요가 약화되고 있으며 대출이 부실화 되고 있다. 농업부분에서는 너무 습한 기후로 인해 동부지역에서 10월과 11월 초가을 수확이 지연되었다.

대부분의 에너지 생산지역은 지난 보고 이후 약간 개선되었고 노동시장은 지난 보고서 이후 안정과 개선된 상황이 일부 있지만 약화된 상황이 지속되고 있다. 일부 지역에서 상품가격에 대한 상승압력이 나타나고 있지만 임금상승압력이나 최종상품의 가격의 중요한 상승은 거의 볼 수 없다.
