GM, 2천명 조기퇴직 실시. 다시 부는 칼 바람

GM이 미국 내 14개 공장의 2천명의 숙련노동자들에 대한 6만 달러 상당의 조기퇴직프로그램을 제공할 것이라고 발표했습니다.

지난달 미시간 공장의 노동자 1000명 확충 발표와 이미 몇 차례 증설계획을 발표했던 것을 비추어보면 재 상장 이후 대외적 입장이 크게 바뀌었음을 볼 수 있습니다.

하지만 자동차 시장이 일부 개선되었다손 치더라도 과거 생산 볼륨을 팔 수 있을 만큼 회복되려면 멀었기 때문에 구조조정은 어찌 보면 더 자연스러울 수 있습니다.

 

 

파산 이후 미 정부로부터 지원을 받기 위해 공약했던 여러 가지 사항이 단지 듣기 좋은 제스처일 뿐 가능성이 낮다는 생각이었는데 결국 그렇게 되고 있으며, 비단 GM에 국한되지 않습니다.

General Motors Co., the largest U.S. automaker, said it will offer early-retirement packages worth $60,000 each to about 2,000 skilled-trades workers at 14 U.S. plants.

 

GM announced the offer today and aims to eliminate the positions by March, said Tom Wilkinson, a company spokesman. Eight of the 14 plants are scheduled to close and two may shut if GM doesn’t need them.

 

GM has been adjusting its North American manufacturing staff since emerging from bankruptcy on July 10 last year. Detroit-based GM has invested more than $3 billion in U.S. factories and will keep line workers at the 14 plants.

 

GM said Nov. 30 that it will hire 1,000 engineers in Michigan over the next two years to help expand the automakers’ lineup of electric-drive vehicles.

 

GM fell 1 cent to $33.80 at 4:15 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The shares have gained 2.4 percent from their $33 sale price in an initial public offering last month.

 

CNBC reported the retirement incentives earlier without saying where it got the information.

미국최대 자동차메이커인 GM이 미국 내 14개 공장의 2000명의 숙련노동자들에 대해 각각 6만불 상당의 조기은퇴패키지를 제공할 것이라고 말했다.

 

GM의 대변인인 탐 윌키슨은 GM이 오늘 이러한 내용을 발표하고 해당 직무를 내년3월까지 없앨 것이라고 말했다. 14개중 8개 공장은 폐쇄할 예정이며 두 개는 GM이 필요하지 않다고 여겨지면 문을 닫게 될 것이라고 말했다.

 

지난해 7월 10일 파산 이후 다시 회생한 이래 GM은 북미사업장 근로자에 대한 조정이 진행 중이다. GM은 미국 내 공장들에 대해 30억불이상을 투자하며 14개 공장의 라인 근로자들을 유지하려 하고 있다.

 

11월 30일 GM은 향후 2년 내에 전기자동차 라인업을 확대하기 위해 미시간에서 1천명의 엔지니어를 고용할 것이라고 말했었다.

 

뉴욕거래소에서 오후 4시 15분 현재 GM의 주가는 1센트 하락한 33.8달러를 기록 중이다. 지난달 재상장시 33불의 공모가에서 2.4%증가한 상황이다.

 

 

 

CNBC는 이러한 조기은퇴인센티브의 출처에 대해서는 밝히지 않았다.
