취업을 희망하는 젊은이들이 꿈의 직장으로 꼽는 구글이 2011년에 회사 역사이래 최대인 6천명의 직원을 채용하겠다고 밝혔습니다.

지난해 최대 방문웹사이트 기준 페이스북에게 1위 자리를 내준 구글은 모바일, 광고 등 새로운 서비스 개발을 통해 경쟁자들과 경쟁하기 위해 인력을 충원할 계획입니다.

 

 

재미있는 사실은 이들과 경쟁했던 야후는 수익악화로 인해 지난해 감원계획을 밝혔다는 사실인데,

시대가 흐르면서 한때 인터넷을 평정했던 야후가 몰락하고 그 자리를 새로운 기업들이 차지하는 모습은 기업경영에 많은 교훈을 줄 수 있겠습니다.

 

 

능력 있는 우리의 젊은이들도 좁은 우리나라에서 아웅다웅 하기보다 일한만큼 보상받는 구글 같은 회사에 적극적으로 대쉬해 보는 게 미래를 위해 좋을 듯 합니다.

Google Says It Plans to Hire More Than 6,000 in 2011

 

 

Google Inc., owner of the world’s most popular search engine, plans to hire at least 6,000 people this year as the company fights off rivals such as Facebook Inc.

 

The hiring pace should make 2011 the biggest year for employee growth in company history, Alan Eustace, senior vice president of engineering and research, said in a blog post. Google, which had 24,400 people at the end of 2010, hired more than 4,500 last year, making that year second only to 2007, when the company added more than 6,000.

 

“I joined Google more than eight years ago -- when we had barely 500 employees,” Eustace said. “While there have been many changes, Google is still the same entrepreneurial company it was when I started, encouraging Googlers to take on big ideas and high-risk, high-reward opportunities.”

 

Google, trying to stoke growth amid competition from Facebook and others, is planning to add engineers to improve services in new areas such as mobile computing, display advertising and video. Facebook, based in Palo Alto, California, surpassed Google as the most-visited website in the U.S. in 2010, according to New York-based Internet tracker Experian Hitwise.

 

Google, based in Mountain View, California, rose $6.99 to $618.07 at 3:46 p.m. New York time on the Nasdaq Stock Market. The shares dropped 4.2 percent last year.

세계에서 가장 인기 있는 검색엔진을 보유한 구글이 페이스북과의 경쟁을 위해 올해 6000명의 인력을 고용할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

 

엔지니어링 리서치의 수석부사장인 앨런 어스테스는 2011년 채용은 회사 역사상 가장 큰 규모가 될 것 될 것이라고 그의 블로그를 통해 말했다. 구글은 지난해 4500명 이상을 고용해 2010년 말 현재 24,400명이며 6,000명 이상이 고용된 2007년 이후 두 번째 일이다.

 

어스테스는 내가 구글에 합류한 8년 전만해도 직원수가 500명에 불과했으며 그간 많은 변화가 있었다. 구글은 내가 입사했을 때와 마찬가지로 여전히 같은 기업정신을 가지고 있으며 구글 직원에게는 거대한 아이디어와 고위험 고수익의 기회를 가지고 있다고 말했다.

 

페이스북이나 여타 다른 경쟁자들과의 경쟁에서 더욱 성장하기 위해 구글은 모바일컴퓨팅과 디스플레이 광고, 비디오 등 새로운 영역의 서비스 향상을 위해 엔지니어를 추가로 영입할 계획이다. IEH에 따르면 2010년 미국에서 최대 방문 웹사이트로서 페이스북이 구글을 넘어섰다.

 

나스닥 시장에서 뉴욕시간으로 오후 3:46현재 구글의 주가는 6.99불 오른 618.07불인데 이 회사 주식은 지난해 4.2%하락했었다.
