지난 3월 일본의 소매매출이 전년비 8.5%감소하며 13년 만에 가장 큰 하락세를 보였다는 기사입니다.

 

 

3월 11일 지진으로 일본 내 생산과 소비가 크게 감소하리란 예상은 어느 정도 가능했지만 그 파장이 전문가들의 예상보다 큰 상황입니다.

 

 

일반적으로 일본 내 생산이 줄어들면 단순히 한국이나 여타 국가가 이를 금새 대체할 수 있어 국내엔 더 좋은 것 아니냐고 생각할 수 있을 지 몰라도 예를 들어 회로기판에 들어가는 특수 접합제 같이 글로벌 시장의 70%를 일본이 생산하는 이런 매우 기초적인 분야의 경우 대체 제를 찾기도 어렵고 대체 제를 찾는다 한들 이전품질을 달성하기 어려워 이런 회로가 들어간 완성품의 불량률이 올라갈 가능성도 있습니다.

 

 

그런데 이런 기초소자나 산업재료들에서 일본이 담당하고 있는 분야가 수도 없이 많으며 이에 대한 생산차질이 생기면 국내 수입되는 수입물가가 상승하게 되는 겁니다. 단순히 글로벌 자동차업체들이 부품의 조달을 우리나라로 돌린다고 좋기만 한 게 아닌 겁니다.

 

 

어쨌든 가뜩이나 내수침체로 인해 수십 년간 어려움을 겪은 일본에게 글로벌 긴축기조가 본격화되면 더 어려운 시기를 맞이하게 될 것으로 보입니다.

Japan’s retail sales tumbled the most in 13 years last month as the nation’s record earthquake shut stores and discouraged households from spending money.

 

Sales slumped 8.5 percent in March from a year earlier, the biggest decline since March 1998, according to a statement by trade ministry in Tokyo today. The median estimate of 14 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for a 6.1 percent drop.

 

Japanese retailers Aeon Co. and Seven & I Holdings Co. say full-year profit may decline after store shelves were left empty because of supply disruptions caused by the March 11 quake. The world’s third-largest economy will contract the most since the financial crisis this quarter, analysts said in a Bloomberg survey this month.

 

“There is concern that lower confidence could lead to a downward spiral of lower consumer spending, weaker economic activity, and declining pay and employment,” David Rea, a Japan economist at Capital Economics Ltd. in London, said before the report. “As the second quarter unfolds we expect a further deterioration in activity and consumer spending.”

 

Confidence among both merchants and households fell the most on record last month, a sign consumers may continue to cut back in the months ahead.

 

Meantime, Toyota Motor Corp. led a record drop in auto sales in March and domestic output plunged 63 percent after disruptions in its supply chains and factory closures. Production will return to normal by December, the automaker said.

 

Prime Minister Naoto Kan unveiled a 4-trillion yen ($49 billion) extra budget last week to rebuild the northeast area that was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami. The spending aims to provide more than 100,000 temporary homes and clean up debris from the disaster.

 

The quake and ensuing tsunami crippled the Fukushima Dai- Ichi nuclear plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co., causing radiation leaks and power shortages in eastern Japan.

지난달 일본의 소매매출이 지진으로 인한 매장의 폐점과 가계 지출감소로 인해 13년 만에 가장 크게 하락했다.

 

통상성에 따르면 지난 3월 판매는 전년대비 8.5%하락해 1998년 3월 이래 가장 큰 하락을 기록했다. 블룸버그가 14명의 이코노미스트를 상대로 한 예측 중앙값은 6.1%수준의 하락이었다.

 

Aeon Co.와 Seven & I Holdings Co. 등 일본의 소매기업들의 연 이익은 지난 3월 11일 지진이로 인한 공급차질 때문에 매장진열대가 비면서 하락할 것으로 보인다. 세계 3위의 경제국인 일본의 경제는 이번 지진으로 금융위기 이후 가장 크게 위축될 것이라고 애널리스트가 블룸버그의 이달 조사에서 말했다.

 

이번 보고이전 CEL의 이코노미스트인 David Rea는 이런 낮은 소비자신뢰도는 소비지출을 더 낮추고 경제활동성을 악화시키는 한편 근로자의 급여를 낮출 수 있다는 우려가 있으며 2분기에 소비지출과 경제활동성이 더 악화될 것이라 보고 있다고 말했다.

 

 

 

상인들과 가계 모두의 소비신뢰도는 지난달 기록적으로 하락했으며 이것은 앞으로도 소비자들이 계속해서 소비를 줄일 것을 알리는 신호이다.

 

도요타자동차는 3월 자동차 판매 하락을 이끌고 있는데 국내 공장과 공급 망이 망가진 이후 국내 생산이 63%줄어들었다. 생산은 12월이나 되어야 정상으로 돌아올 것이라고 회사는 말했다.

 

나오토 칸 총리는 지난주 스나미와 지진으로 황폐해진 북동부지역의 재건을 위해 4조엔(490억불)의 추가 예산 집행을 발표했다. 이 예산은 10만개의 임시주택과 재난으로 인한 쓰레기를 치우는데 사용될 것이다.

 

지진과 스나미가 덮쳐 일본 동부지역의 방사능유출과 전력부족을 초래한 후쿠시마 다이이치 원자력 발전소는 도쿄전력에 의해 운영되고 있다.
