애플 및 휴랫팩커드 등 대형 전자제품 기업에 부품을 공급하는 대만의 세계적인 전자부품제조납품회사인 혼하이가 중국공장에서의 잇따른 근로자의 자살로 인해 상당한 어려움을 겪고 있습니다.
혼하이 중국공장의 근로자들이 낮은 임금과 강압적인 분위기 속에서 근로를 강요당했다는 사실이 드러나면서 중국당국이 직접 나서 이에 대한 조사를 실시하고 있는데, 이 기업으로부터 부품을 조달 받는 애플 같은 기업들에 대해 윤리적인 이유로 불똥이 튀고 있는 상 황입니다.

“This is not a plan we just came up with,” Edmund Ding, a spokesman for Hon Hai, said today in response to a report from Taiwan’s United Daily. “We have plans to raise the minimum wages and will be implementing them soon.” Ding declined to say when the change will be effective.
The death toll of apparent suicides by Hon Hai Group workers has risen to 10 this year in the southern city of Shenzhen, prompting clients such as Apple Inc. and Hewlett- Packard Co. to begin probes on the supplier’s working conditions. Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou on May 26 led media on a tour of the company’s Shenzhen factories and apologized for being unable to prevent the suicides.
===The Shenzhen police is investigating the suicides, said Li Ping, a spokesman for the Shenzhen municipal government. Wang Rong, communist party secretary of Shenzhen Municipal Committee, and other city officials such as the labor union officials went to the plant on May 26 to investigate, the government said in a statement on its website yesterday.

세계 최대의 전자부품제조사인 Hon Hai Precision Industry Co.가 중국본토 공장에서의 직원 자살사건 이후 중국 내 임금을 20%인상하는 것을 고려하고 있다.
회사의 대변인인 Edmund Ding은 Taiwan’s United Daily의 보고서에 대한 답변으로 오늘 '이것은 갑자기 생각해낸 계획이 아니며 최소임금을 올리는 등의 노력을 할 계획을 가지고 있었다고 말했다. Ding은 언제쯤 이러한 계획을 시행할지에 대해서는 언급하지 않았다.
애플이나 휴랫팩커드에 부품을 공급하고 있는 Hon Hai Group 근로자의 자살은 선전의 남부도시 지역에서만 올해 10명이 발생했다. Hon Hai Group 회장인 Terry Gou는 5월 26일 회사의 선전공장들을 둘러보면서 자살방지를 위해 노력하지 못한 것을 사과했다.
선전 자치정부의 대변인인 Li Ping은 선전의 경찰이 자살사건을 조사하고 있다고 말했다. 선전 자치위원회의 공산당서기인 Wang Rong과 노동조합임원들 같은 다른 도시 관료들은 6월 26일 공장에 방문했다고 정부가 어제 웹사이트를 통해 밝혔다.
